Irregular perfectum in Dutch

You need the perfect tense all the time. Check out our article about when to use imperfectum and when perfectum if you want to learn more about when to use it.

In this article we will explain how you can learn irregular verbs in Dutch.

This won't take long to explain, but it will take you a while to learn: you will have to learn the irregular verbs for perfectum and imperfectum by heart. Just a few examples:

  • Ik doe
  • Ik heb gedaan (perfectum)
  • Ik deed (imperfectum)
  • Ik eet
  • Ik heb gegeten (perfectum)
  • Ik at (imperfectum)
  • Ik drink
  • Ik heb gedronken (perfectum)
  • Ik dronk (imperfectum)
  • Ik word
  • Ik ben geworden (perfectum)
  • Ik werd (imperfectum)

Verbs that are irregular in perfectum are often also irregular in imperfectum (but not always, there are some exceptions).
